I will survive – dancing Auschwitz
On a recent trip to Europe, a family of three generations (a Holocaust survivor, his daughter and his grandchildren) dance to Gloria Gaynor’s pop song „I Will Survive“ at concentration camps and memorials throughout Europe. This dance is a tribute to the tenacity of the human spirit and a celebration of life. Despite the systematic brutality and cruelty endured, we have still survived.
So beschreibt die australische Künstlerin Jane Korman ihr Video bei YouTube. Yaacov Lozowick ist sich nicht ganz sicher, was er von dem Werk halten soll:
It it art, as she says? Not that I can see, but I’m not an expert. Is it good taste? I don’t know. Is it worthy of condemnation? I don’t think so. It’s a bit loopy, but a Holocasut survivor dancing with his grandchildren at Auschwitz, to my mind, is overall more positive than negative.
Einer seiner Blog-Kommentatoren hingegen zeigt sich zutiefst beeindruckt:
The Jewish celebration of life is the answer to the Holocaust. All those millions murdered would smile that the Jewish people are still here. This then is their answer to those who slaughtered them and no one can take it from the survivors and their descendants. No one.
Andere wiederum kritisieren das Video scharf – siehe den Beitrag in der Ha’aretz.
Ich liege mit meiner Einschätzung irgendwo zwischen Lozowick und seinem Kommentator. Den „disrespect“, den die Kritiker in diesem Film sehen, kann ich jedenfalls nicht erkennen.
